Booyah Fifty Lakes 2021

This was a first for us and it was super fun! I’ve never had Booyah before and never been to an event like this but I know we will totally be back next year. If you don’t know what Booyah is it’s a large vat of soup that has a lot of root vegetables and some meat in really flavorful broth. I believe that the folks at Fifty Lakes said that they cooked this for 24 hours. They were continuing to add vegetables to the soup as the day went on because all of the vegetables that they cooked kept breaking down. It  made the whole thing more fun because it was an all you can eat Booyah event so if you wanted to keep your bowl and eat throughout the day, the soup was different as the day went on.

We had a riding plan on top of the Booyah event. We had a chance to talk to the bartenders at Fifty Lakes and they told us about a handful of trails that we didn’t even know about in that area. We were told about the Wolf Lake Trails that take you over to the old grade – the old railroad grade – that will eventually spit you out by Washburn Lake in Outing. It was a totally different way to get over to Fifty Lakes that we’ve never done before. The trails aren’t really trails – they are county roads that are open to all vehicles. They were wide and smooth which was a totally different riding experience than we’re used to in that area.

We met some folks on the trail over to Fifty Lakes and they decided to hang out with us for the day. It’s always fun when we’re out on the trails and we meet new people that join us on our rides. It turns out that they had a cabin on Washburn so they were really looking forward to riding these new trails since it’s another way for them to go to Fifty Lakes and get back to the cabin. They are super nice folks that bring way too much food!! They were very generous and shared everything they brought with all of us. After our ride everyone came back to our cabin for pot roast that we had in the crockpot. It was really nice to be able to share dinner with them after the ride.

The only downside to the day was that my husband’s machine didn’t make it back to the cabin without being trailered home. We’re pretty sure the drive shaft is broken so we made it back to a tar road so that he could go pick it up after we got back to Outing. These are the days that I’m super glad we each drive our own machines. It gives us the ability to go out and feel a little bit better about running into issues like this. In this case I thankfully had an empty seat and we got to continue with the ride we had planned. Once we got back to Outing he and our friend that was on the ride with us went and picked up his machine. We’re towing it home as I write this!

We had such a great ride yesterday even though his machine didn’t make it all the way back to the cabin. The weather was beautiful and the temperature was perfect for the hearty Booyah that we had at Fifty Lakes. We got to see so many folks at the event and we also made some new friends along the way.
