Camping at Spider Lake

Boy did we pick the perfect weekend to go riding at the Spider Lake ATV trails! We decided to go out on our maiden voyage with our new camper! All of our friends seem to have campers and toy haulers and take a lot of side by side trips over the spring, summer and fall. We finally joined the club and got a 1997 Wildwood Camper that’s a fifth wheel that we can pull a trailer with one of our side by sides behind! It’s been in our drive way for a month while I did some minor upgrades and we found the right time to test it out! This last weekend ended up being perfect! It was 74 and mostly cloudy on Saturday which is amazing weather for riding.

We chose Spider Lake for the maiden voyage because it’s only 45 mins away from our cabin in Outing – so if anything went horribly wrong we were at least kinda of close to home. This is our first time with a fifth wheel and for sure the first time that my husband pulled a camper with a trailer with a side by side on it. We brought our doggo on this adventure because he’s the real reason for the camper. He’s getting a little older and we want to take him with us whenever we can.

I was totally looking forward to this trip! I love camping – I mean really I love glamping… You wouldn’t catch me in a tent these days! It turned out to be an amazing trip with even more amazing trails!

Spider Lake ATV Trails are amazing! The trails are so much fun and there are so many of them. We already know we’re going to go back again this year – maybe in the fall since there are so many trees and I bet it’s beautiful! If we do the trip in the fall it will be our third time this year hitting these trails! Our friends that joined us on this adventure have been talking about going here forever. They finally made their maiden voyage the same time we went riding for the first time on these trails. They were more than happy to come back for our maiden voyage with the camper and trailer since the trails are so much fun!

The area is so diverse as you can see in the pictures. There were parts of the trail that were heavily wooded and other parts of the trails that looked like someone dropped a bomb out in the woods. There were super tight trails that had a ton of fun whoops on them and there were some really nice smooth forest roads that took you to towns and enabled you to make some hay if you wanted to get back to camp. There were trails that reminded me so much of our local trails in Outing and there were a lot of trails that reminded me of the trails in Huntsville Tennessee. It’s an amazing area to ride and also has great free campsites.

I am so happy we did this and the timing couldn’t have been better! There was an event in Minnesota called Ride the Shore 4 that I think the entire state attended so the trails up in Spider Lake were pretty quiet. Also, it’s always hard to get Minnesotans to give up a weekend on the boat but the weather this weekend for us was more suited for riding. Kinda gloomy at times and only made it to about 74 degrees Fahrenheit which was perfect for riding.

The best thing about the trip for me was that we got to test out our new camper with some amazing friends. They are old pros at this camping and riding thing so it made it so easy and comfortable to be out in the new to us camper. They are also our favorite people to go riding with! We always have the best time out on the trails – sharing food and drinks and laughs along the way.

If you’re ever in the Minnesota area I highly recommend those trails for so many reasons! Seriously some of the most fun riding I’ve done that isn’t terribly too far from home. The camping is great and the people you run into along the way are great too!
