Friends & Family Weekend

This past weekend we were luck enough to have our nieces and their boyfriends up to go riding with us! My husband rented them a 4 up general and we had it for the whole day. It was great because they all got to ride together and take turns being the driver. We took them up on a couple trails near our cabin to start and then headed over to Swatara and Hill City to hit up the Corner Club for lunch. It was a perfect day to go riding because it was finally not super hot! We also got a little rain so the trails were less dusty than usual which was great because the kids didn’t have a windshield in their rental. Thankfully they had goggle though since it was still dusty in some areas of the trails. The girls kept taking pictures of how dirty their faces were and every time we stopped they would pat themselves to see how much dust came out of their clothes.

Thankfully we avoided the rain during our ride – especially because of the lack of windshield for the kids. It wasn’t the best day to have everyone out on the boat but it was great for the kind of long ride we planned for the day. We also had some friends along for the ride that we normally ride with and some friends that were staying up at the All Pine Inn for the weekend that we don’t ride with too often. We all had a blast riding around the Outing Area this weekend.

We had so much fun even though the weather was a little gloomy. We started out with some egg bake to get us going in the morning. I cut up some pepper jack and threw some meat sticks in the cooler just in case anyone got hungry before we made it to the Corner Club for lunch – which was a great idea because everyone wanted some snacks at one of the stops! One thing I’ve learned over the years that we’ve been riding is that no matter what trip you’re on – even if you are stopping somewhere for a meal – it’s always smart to have some snacks in the side by side.

The trip we planned was really fun and it worked out well because we had enough stops to have the kids switch drivers. Everyone that wanted to drive the rental got to drive for a while. We even hit some puddles because of the recent rain in the area so they go to really enjoy all aspects of riding the trails.

We wanted to take the kids – and I say kids because I’ve know the girls since they were 9 & 11 but they’re all grown up now at 20 and 22 – on some trails that were fun but great for anyone that hasn’t ridden too much in the past. After the ride they told us that they’ve only been out in a side by side once before and had a blast riding since they really don’t get to do this too much.

We were so glad that everyone enjoyed the trip – including our friends that were up for the weekend and tagged along with us and our family. We were also so glad that everything went smoothly and everyone made it back safe and sound, just a whole lot dirtier. It’s the best whenever you have an opportunity to get out in nature and spend time with family and friends!
