Riding Near Silver Bay 2019

This was one of our first rides in Minnesota when we started riding here. We went up to Silver Bay with friends that had planned a trip and it turned out to be an incredibly beautiful day! The weather was perfect and the sky was insanely blue and it was the perfect time of year to get some good leafing in too. If you’re not familiar with leafing it’s something that my husband and I love to do every fall. We drive around parts of the state when the leaves are in full fall color. We have a couple of different places we frequent depending on the time of year and where we are. Up in Silver Bay the leaves were turning a lot earlier than where we live so it turned out to be a perfect time to go riding.

We didn’t really plan on participating in Ride the Shore in 2019 – we happened to be there on the weekend it was going on. We rode on both Friday and Saturday and joined this organized ride. It was really fun because they had a poker run and raffle tickets that you could participate in. The poker run was fun because instead of pulling cards at every stop, they had a dart board that you had to throw darts at to build your hand. The cards were spread all over the board and they were over lapping too so it made getting a good hand kind of difficult. There were some folks on the run that were good at darts so they ended up with some good cards. Me… well… not so much…

At the end of the ride you got to go and see who had the winning poker hand and they were serving brats and hot dos with chips and cookies. I can’t remember the fee for the ride but it was totally worth it because we had a blast and it was such a beautiful day. We had a couple people from our group end up winning some of the raffle items. You could throw your tickets at the end at some prizes that they had laid out on tables and we had some success in our group!

I would love to do this ride again and I’m hoping we can work it in our schedule this year. That area is absolutely beautiful as you can tell by some of the pictures on this page. Silver Bay is where we stayed at the Mariner Motel. It was definitely in the category of motel but it didn’t matter to us – all we did was hang out there after riding and have fires. When we were there the owner would provide wood by the fire pit so we could all relax by a roaring fire. We also got to meet other folks that were staying at the motel that went riding with that group.

One of the best things about this hobby is that you get to meet so many people that share your love for this sport and you also get to know a lot of different people from different backgrounds. It’s a great reminder that we all have things in common – no matter where ya come from.
