Spring Riding

Spring riding is always the best! It always feels like finally the season started! We do a lot of winter riding – especially this last year since we didn’t get a lot of snow in Outing. If we had a good snow year I have a feeling it would have been my first time out on snowmobiles in the area since my husband got a second sled last year. I would have loved to go snowmobiling but it wasn’t in the cards. Even though we get out a lot in the winter there is nothing like riding in the spring.

It can be dusty and it can be muddy – and on certain parts of the trails it can be both. There is nothing like getting out into the woods with the sun out on a warm spring day and getting to see all the new leaves on the trees and smell the fresh spring air. The trails we ride are closed for a part of the spring so that riders don’t damage them when the ground is thawing and the snow is melting. That’s probably why it always feels so good to get back on the trails in May.

We have a couple of rides planned this year – one of them we need to get out and scout the trail since my husband is leading a group this year for the Pork-N-Ride out of Emily. All I know is that I’m ready to get back in my machine and go riding as soon as the trails are back open!

We’ve been a lot of places in the spring since we do have some trail closures to make sure the trails are protected during the transition of the seasons. It’s been a great year without a lot of snow which hopefully means that the trails we normally ride in Outing will be opening on time – without delays due to weather or thawing conditions. We have been down the Soo Line some years to get to the Corner Club and we’ve been to the trails over in the Wahkon area – it just depends on who wants to go riding with us.

We love having folks up to go riding with us. We have a place up in Outing and my husband invites folks up all the time. We also have friends that have a cabin up there that we hang out with and go riding with all the time – so most of my pictures have them in them. They have a lot of people up and have nice land where folks can park their RVs so there are some weekends where we have quite a lot of riders along with us.

The best thing about the area we’ve been riding in is that there are so many different trails that you can take so it doesn’t get boring! Every time we go out it feels like we see something different, or find a new trail to explore, or another little treasure hidden in the woods. One of the reasons going on club sponsored or lead rides is to learn about where to go and all the little hidden gems in the woods. Someday I’m going to put together a scavenger hunt for all of us to participate in once I can figure out how to run it.
