Rainy Weekend Riding

It finally rained!! We’ve gotten a little rain here and there but nothing like this at all this summer. The dust on the trails has been nuts this year and thankfully we got a lot of rain over the last couple days and instead of being covered in dust, we got covered in mud! It was a really nice change!

We follow a Facebook page that has a lot of pictures and information about the area we ride in and have a cabin in and one of the folks that post information on that page said that they had 3 1/4″ of rain from Friday to Sunday. We were always super happy when we got 1/2 – 3/4 of an inch of rain because it at least knocked the dust down a bit.

I kind of forgot how much fun it is to hit puddles going at a clip and cover your machine with mud. We went on a couple of different rides this weekend and hit a couple different trails that have been bone dry all summer. I totally forgot what it was like to ride the trails when they’re wet and where all the water gathers. I’m super happy that we got a good amount of rain because next weekend is Labor Day and it will hopefully stick around so the trails stay less dusty.

The weekend after Labor Day weekend is our Annual Ladies Only Ride that we did a Pre-Run for last weekend and it’s looking like we’ll get some more rain before the Ladies Only Ride so hopefully we won’t be covered in dust for the next few weeks. I’m not really sure what the plan is right now for Labor Day weekend given my husband and I tend to avoid the trails on busy holiday weekends. I’m sure we’ll get out at some point and I’ll have a lot of pictures to post.

I helped organize the Ladies Only Ride last year and I’m helping with the ride again this year. I have stickers printed for all of the ladies to take home after the ride, we have some swag to give away at each stop for correct answers to trivia questions and I would really like to figure out a way to do some sort of raffle too to help raise money for the club. The Ladies Only Ride is a really great opportunity for women to get out on the trails and be the driver when maybe they aren’t all the time. We’re a very supportive group of women that love riding, no matter how that shakes out so I’m looking forward to that weekend coming up here soon.

We didn’t have anyone up this weekend and our friends that live up there weren’t able to come up, so it was just me and my husband out on the trails for the most part. We did get out for a quick ride on Friday night with some of our friends that live pretty close to our cabin in Outing.

We got out a little later on Saturday because there were some pretty solid storms in our area during the day. We decided to avoid riding in those storms and went out to Bar Harbor on Gull Lake. They were having an antique boat show featuring Chris Crafts so we made the trip over to that area before going out riding. I don’t think I’ve ever been to Gull Lake so it was a really fun way to break up the day, ride out the storm and do something else besides side by siding.

We are really grateful for the rain for so many reasons including helping with lake levels and hopefully helping with the trees and fall colors that are coming soon. The Outing area definitely needed all the rain!
