Summer Riding MN
Everyone asks me about summers in Minnesota, mostly assuming that they are either not terribly hot or very short. While that can be true some years – I wanna say it was a couple of years ago where it never felt like it go hot enough – most years we have a beautiful summer. It’s a great time for boating, swimming, and of course riding. We are on the boat a lot in the summer and it is hard to choose what to do on the weekends when you have to pick between the water and riding, but we still get out in the machines and ride with our friends.
As for the length of our summers – that really depends on the year too. I would say we have much less of a spring than summer every year. On occasion we have a nice warm spring but most of the time we expect to get snow any time until May. Our summer weather usually seems to last well into September and even October at times. One thing about Minnesota is that it’s unpredictable so being able to be down for anything Mother Nature sends your way is something we all have ingrained in us.
Late summer is my favorite time to ride. We also go on a lot of night rides during the summer so we can get out on the boat during the day and enjoy the sunshine and get in the water, and get out on the trails when the sun goes down – best of both worlds.
There are a lot of different trails in our area for us to ride on in the summer. There is a lot of logging going on in our area that make great ATV trails. We also have an amazing club that is dedicated to working with the DNR and the state to help grow the trail system that we have available to us. They also do an amazing job maintaining the trails and putting on events to raise money for the club. A couple of the ones that you can check out that I have participated in and the Pork-N-Ride 2019, the Ladies Only Ride 2020 and the Pork-N-Ride 2020.
Summer is a great time to go riding with friends and also get out on the lakes with friends too. We are lucky enough in Minnesota to have so many lakes and trails that people can take advantage of. We have Spider Lake ATV/ORV/ORM trails that we can trailer up to pretty easily if we are up north, we can also hop on the Soo Line and make some hay getting to many places in Minnesota. Soo Line is an old railroad bed and you can get quite a ways on it. It goes through Aitkin County, Carlton County, Cass Count, Mille Lacs County, Morrison County, and Pine County.
There’s quite a few places I would love to go this summer in Minnesota – I would love to check out some new trails and take some pictures so I can share them with all of you.
